Hike the Capital Trail
Jun 01, 2026 12:00PM ● By Catherine AtienzaThe Valentine Museum and the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation will conduct a “History Hike” along the Capital Trail at Great Shiplock Park, Canal Walk and beyond from 9 a.m. to noon, June 27.
Hikers can learn how industry, transportation and recreation intersect along the James River. The event begins at Great Shiplock Park and follows the Capital Trail past Tobacco Row before continuing along the Canal Walk to Richmond’s riverfront.
The Virginia Capital Trail is a 52-mile paved biking and walking trail that connects Jamestown Settlement, Virginia’s first colonial capital, to downtown Richmond. Valentine walking tours vary between one and two miles in length. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.
Admission is free with registration (required). Location: 2803 Dock St., Richmond. Tours are held rain or shine, but in extreme weather, a tour may be cancelled.
