Juneteenth July Jubilee
Jul 11, 2024 04:20AM ● By Catherine AtienzaThe 2024 Juneteenth July Jubilee to be held from July 5 through 7 at Twin Lakes State Park Cedar Crest Conference Center, with a special appearance and talk by Dr. Opal Lee. The event will include music, history, a walk around the lake and guest speakers. Lee, often described as the “grandmother of Juneteenth,” is a retired teacher, counselor and major activist in the movement to make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday.
The three-day extravaganza will include music, songs, food and a “Down Home Family Gathering” event in the afternoon on July 5. Park staff and the public are invited to attend a church service with Lee on July 7. Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S.
