Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation Receives Girl Power Award
The nonprofit Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation, dedicated to erasing stigmas associated with teenage anxiety and depression and providing programs that help, is the recipient of Girl Power’s first-ever $10,000 grant award. The group will use the award to develop a peer support curriculum that provides mental health education from certified young adult speakers to middle and high school teens, their parents, teachers and school administrators.
At Girl Power, 100 girls between 12 and 17 years old raise $100 each, review bids and vote on one nonprofit recipient. The Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation was formed after its namesake collapsed and died moments after crossing the finish line at the 2014 Shamrock Half Marathon, in Virginia Beach. The groups are making a major impact in Richmond area schools, with plans to expand in the future.
