Injury Prevention for Young Athletes
Injury Prevention for Young Athletes at the Therapeutic Massage & Wellness Center is a new program focusing on the growing concern of repetitive injuries experienced by young athletes. The program combines regular sports massage therapy, infrared heat treatments and exercise therapy to help prevent injuries and improve the healing process for current injuries. The end-goal is to help enhance student athlete performance, decrease pain and inflammation associated with repetitive use and allow them to return to their sport more quickly following injury.
Jordan O’Connell, program director, is a certified massage therapist who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health, physical education and exercise from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has an extensive background in health and human performance in cardiovascular and massage therapy settings. Her integrative approach blends structural rebalancing, neuromuscular therapy and manual lymphatic drainage with therapeutic exercises to help her clients perform and train at a higher level, while minimizing the risk of repetitive or overuse injuries.
