Natural Awakenings magazine believes that everyone can lead a more healthy and balanced life, and we aim to provide resources to aid in that journey. Our mission is to provide insights and improve the lives of our readers mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. However, we realized that we have not been doing our part in making our efforts as inclusive as they should be. How can we consistently push out new content and keep up-to-date with the wellness community without addressing the on-going infringement upon the holistic wellness of those in our neighborhoods?
Though the harsh reality of our Black community members is not new, it is our responsibility to uplift the ways that George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade and others have sparked action across our country. Both the loss of these lives and the subsequent lack of compassion that followed have shaken us and our city, very plainly showcasing how much work is left to be done.
Richmond is a beautiful city with a complicated history. Though the events of the past couple months did not start here, Natural Awakenings is stepping up in our role of active allyship. Because of our focus on the healthy lives of all of our readers and community members, we are highlighting some of the local Black-owned businesses that we love. Though this is a small effort, we are committed to doing our part.
We want our readership and partnerships to more closely resemble the fullness and beauty of the communities we live in, and we hope that you will support these businesses listed to make that a reality.
